I overslept by 13 minutes. Normally, I have a rule that every time I oversleep by more than 5 minutes, I do burpees. A lot of them. Since I lost some training time, I have to make it up with intensity. So burpees are my go-to exercise.
For the last few weeks, I was pretty liberal with this approach—I didn’t really oversleep that much, and if I did, it was usually by no more than 10-15 minutes. It wasn’t like that not so long ago. When I lived in Spain, I had the luxury of sleeping until around 8:30. Still, my alarm went off at 6:00 AM, but I had difficulties getting out of bed. So burpees became my motivation around the beginning of the year. At that point, I managed to do ~35 burpees at once. Every time I overslept, I added one additional rep. Sometimes two.
Like I said, I overslept today by 13 minutes and decided enough is enough—it might become a pattern, so it’s time to bring back the discipline. I ran 2.75 km and then did 79 burpees. Without breaks, it took me around 6 minutes. For me, it’s a killer exercise. I don’t feel that awful doing any other exercise that I can think of right now. It’s super intense full-body training in 6 minutes. According to my journal, just 8 months ago, 20 reps were a struggle for me. A great way to remember to think twice before snoozing.
Update: I came back home a bit earlier and decided to work on my core. It was supposed to be my ‘alone time’ this evening (though it didn’t turn out that way). Since I had no other plans, I figured I might as well train a bit more. Here’s how the training went:
Shoulder taps 3×30
Leg raises 3×15
Mountain climbers 3×40 sec
Battle ropes 3×45 sec
That’s it for Wednesday. I spent half an hour with the foam roller preparing for tomorrow.
