It was easier today. I woke up, put on my vest, and went out.
- 1.8 km run
- 3×20 push-ups
- 3×10 hanging leg raises
- 3×65 sec plank
I’m still kind of surprised by how much harder push-ups become with an extra 15 kg on you. Without it, I easily do anywhere from 50 to 70, even 80 on a good day (mostly fast pace). But with 15 kg added to my body, 20 reps feel like my limit. I googled it, and it turns out that push-ups are roughly equivalent to pressing 60% of your body weight compared to bench press. So, if I weigh around 80 kg, 60% of that is about 50 kg, add 15 kg, and now I’m lifting around 65 kg. Arguably, push-ups are more complex because your core is heavily involved, so that probably explains it. From my bench-pressing experience, I would say a 65 kg bar is definitely easier.
I’m cautiously optimistic about the longevity of my routine. I also need to get back to the gym, but I’m still undecided if I should go to the one that’s a 5-minute run from my home but is expensive and pretty bad, or the other one that’s farther away (I’d need to drive) but is cheaper and better.
